*- Red Sox RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (arm fatigue) pitched five scoreless innings Friday for Triple-A Pawtucket, allowing two runs and striking out nine, in what apparently was his last injury-rehab start. He’s expected to start Friday for Boston.

**- LHP Clayton Richard has replaced RHP Jose Contreras in the White Sox rotation. Chicago plans to give him several starts in hopes that he could settle in on a regular basis.

3*- Sox RHP Bartolo Colon left Saturday’s game after five innings because of what he called a “minor” stomach upset, though it seems hard to believe anything regarding his stomach would be minor. He also said he expects to make his next start on schedule Thursday.

4*- The Indians brought up LHP David Huff from Triple-A Columbus to make his major league debut as today’s starter, with LHP Jeremy Sowers demoted to Columbus. The 24-year-old Huff was 5-1 with a 4.35 ERA for the Clippers.

5*- The Royals are expected to keep Luke Hochevar in their rotation even though he struggled Tuesday in his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Omaha.

6*- Angels RHP John Lackey threw just two pitches Saturday on his return from the disabled list, but that wasn’t because of a recurrence of his strained forearm. Plate umpire Bob Davidson ejected Lackey because one pitch sailed behind Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler and the second hit him in the left rib cage. Lackey told me today, “I’m probably going to start tomorrow.”

7*- Athletics RHP Sean Gallagher will start Monday’s game, when a good performance could keep him in their rotation.

8*- Mariners LHP Erik Bedard missed Saturday’s start because of a sore right hamstring, but is expected to be ready to reclaim his place in the rotation to start Thursday.

*- The Diamondbacks promoted 22-year-old RHP Bryan Augenstein from Double-A Mobile, where he was 5-0 with an 0.78 ERA, 5.17 strikeout/walk ratio and .145 opponents’ batting average. Those numbers didn’t help him much when he lost his first major league start Wednesday to the Reds.

**- The Braves are promoting RHP Kris Medlen from Triple-A Gwinnett to replace LHP Jo-Jo Reyes in their rotation. Medlen was 5-0 with 1.19 ERA, 4.40 K/W ratio and .157 opponents’ average in the International League.

3*- The Cubs skipped LHP Sean Marshall’s most recent start Saturday so he could work out some problems in the bullpen. He’s scheduled to start Thursday, with RHP Randy Wells returning to a relief role.

4*- Reds RHP Micah Owings was scheduled to start Tuesday, but he pitched 5 2/3 relief innings and was the losing pitcher Saturday when Cincinnati fell in 16 innings at San Diego. It’s likely that RHP Aaron Harang would move ahead of Owings to pitch Wednesday, with both pitchers then starting on four days’ rest.

5*- Journeyman LHP Jon Koronka has joined the Marlins’ rotation with RHP Anibal Sanchez on the disabled list. Koronka lost Tuesday in his first major league start since 2007.

6*- The Dodgers have replaced RHP Jeff Weaver in their rotation with LHP Eric Milton, whose start Saturday was his first major league appearance in two years.

7*- The Mets recalled RHP Tim Redding from Triple-A Buffalo to start Monday’s game. He’ll be in the rotation spot once held by LHP Oliver Perez.

8*- Following Saturday’s doubleheader, the Phillies returned to their regular rotation with RHP Chan Ho Park starting today’s game. Rookie RHP Andrew Carpenter was with Philadelphia to start just Saturday’s second game.

9*- Cardinals RHP Kyle Lohse’s start Friday lasted just two innings before rain caused the game to be postponed. He’ll be able to return to the mound Monday, with the other starting pitchers lining up behind him in the rotation.

10*- RHP Chris Carpenter (oblique injury) threw more than 100 pitches in a simulated game Friday, and is expected to be able to resume his turn in the rotation Wednesday.

11*- Following Saturday’s doubleheader, the Nationals needed a fifth starter, so they recalled LHP Ross Detwiler from Double-A Harrisburg. He was 0-3 despite a 2.96 ERA for the Senators. Since his recall, LHP Scott Olsen went on the disabled list, so Detwiler is likely to stay in the rotation.
